Description
The nightly Hindu fire ceremony, Aarti, performed by Brahmin disciples to honor the holy river, Gods and deities. It takes place every night and you will find locals and visitors alike rowing up to find a place on the ganges river to watch the ceramony. Veranasi is also called the City of Death. Hindus believe that Varanasi is the most auspicious place to die and that having your body washed and cremated on the Ganges, then having your ashes thrown in the river will liberate them form the cycle of life and death (reincarnation) and allow them to move to a higher plane of being. Witnessing this ritual was a profound experience.
